Default Calendar: Learning to Schedule Your Day
If your like me then your calendar looks like a box of crayons melted on your desktop, but there's a solution that we at Just Perfect! have found works wonders. We use something called a "Default Calendar" that allows us to separate outside appointments with our day-to-day workload. It's very easy to get caught up in one task and realize that you've just wasted half a day on something that wasn't even a priority! With the Default Calendar you can schedule personal appoinment with yourself that will set off an alarm when it's time to move on to the next task. For example: my calendar has time built in each week for post project marketing, blogging, follow-up phone calls, etc. I treat these appointments as an actual meeting and try to follow the guidelines that I have set for myself. I also build in 10-15 minutes at the end of the day to plan the next day; it's called "Pack up and Plan." This has really helped with gearing up in the mornings, because when I come in I already have a timeline of my day. Now there will be some tweaking and perfecting this system in the beginning to make it work for you, but I promise once you find your magic formula your workday will be so much more productive! |
