The Kitchen: The original kitchen was full of dark wood cabinets and heavy marble counter tops and backsplash. The eat in area was wall to wall with a floral wall paper with drapes to match. The kitchen was Kay’s mother’s domain which meant it held many memories. Kay didn't want to get rid of the dining table because so many people had sat and eaten delicious meals prepared by her mother. Angeline was an excellent cook, baker, and gracious hostess. She enjoyed having people around that kitchen table. Kay wanted to keep that feeling of cherished company and kept the layout of the kitchen the same along with the dining table and chairs. In the beginning Kay wanted everything to be white, we encouraged her to incorporate another color to give some contrast. After finding out a favorite color of hers was blue, what began as a deep cobalt blue eventually evolved into a beautiful shade of light blue that Kay loves and knows by name! The appliances stayed in their same spots but were upgraded. The dining table and chairs where painted and reupholstered. Kay wasn’t going to let the cabinets go because they were good cabinets original to the home. After a hard time visualizing the removal of the long cabinet over the island  it was taken down to open and brighten the space. The remaining cabinets were painted white and finished with new hardware. The fan above the dining table was taken down and replaced with a gorgeous two shade light and florescent lights in the kitchen ceiling were replaced with can lighting. The counter from below the removed cabinets was cut back to create more space around the dining table and was refinished with new countertops and a colorful blue backsplash above the oven. “If my mother were alive today she’d love it.”
